About
At Gringa Swimwear, our mission is to create high-quality swimsuits for young women, inspired by Brazilian design while respecting eco-responsible and ethical practices. We aim to offer unique pieces that inspire confidence and comfort, allowing women to feel beautiful, comfortable, and fulfilled, while minimizing our environmental impact.
We value durability, authenticity, and the idea that every woman feels beautiful and confident. Every Gringa bikini is carefully made, combining fashion and ecological awareness. Inspired by Brazil's vibrant culture and Lola's love for the ocean, our swimsuits reflect freedom, style, and commitment to reducing waste.
Gringa Swimwear was created in June 2020 by Lola Nonnot, inspired by her love of bikinis and Brazilian beach culture. Having grown up in Saint-Martin and spent her teenage years in Brazil, in Bahia, Lola always wore Brazilian bikinis. Upon her return to France in 2016, she noticed a lack of well-cut swimsuits like the ones she was used to wearing.
The name "Gringa" comes from the word "Gringo," a term used in Brazil to refer to foreigners. Her Brazilian friends affectionately called her "Gringa" because of her foreign origins. This cute nickname, reflecting her special connection to Brazil, eventually became the name of her brand, embodying both her multicultural roots and her love for this country.
After obtaining her Scientific Baccalaureate in 2019 and not yet knowing which path to choose, Lola decided to take a gap year to retrace her childhood in Brazil and Saint-Martin. During this trip, she posted several photos and videos on Instagram and began receiving messages from French women asking her to bring back Brazilian bikinis, which sparked the idea to create her own designs.
She returned to France just before the first lockdown in 2020. During those two months, she refined her idea and officially launched Gringa Swimwear, along with her first collection on the beaches of Biarritz and Anglet for summer 2020. Not wanting to limit herself to the Basque Country, she created a website to sell worldwide.
From the beginning, each swimsuit was handmade with seamstresses, in collaboration with Lola. As the brand grew, Gringa Swimwear established partnerships with trusted suppliers to increase production while respecting our eco-friendly values. Every step of the process is designed to minimize waste, whether it is designing small and efficient packaging or choosing sustainable materials.
